Description
Peregrine Advisors is a firm founded on a simple conviction: the best solutions come from the people closest to the problem, given real ownership and the tools to deliver. We are a data and technology innovation hub and a Benefit Corporation working at the center of the federal government's mission to deliver for client stakeholders and the US public, looking for highly motivated contributors who thrive when trusted to own a hard problem and equipped to deliver the solution. Your first assignment Your first assignment will likely include turning a federal program's operational data into numbers people can trust by: defining measures with the people who own the process, and writing down the business rules behind every number; writing the SQL that turns platform data on Amazon Aurora and related Amazon Web Services (AWS) data stores into clean, reconciled analytical datasets; building the recurring reports and dashboards a program actually uses, with documented measures, refresh schedules, and access controls; tracing discrepancies to their source: definitions, timing, filters, and source systems, until the number is explained; or replacing manual reporting with repeatable, tested workflows. Adaptability and a demonstrated capacity to learn new concepts, systems, and tools are what keep you ahead of program needs as projects complete and priorities shift. The work is real, hard, and it matters. It is also where you start, not the shape of your career here: we hire people, not seats, and we move our best to where the hardest problems are. What you'll build The numbers a federal program runs on, with the provenance to prove where each one came from. Clean analytical datasets that reconcile source fields, business definitions, and calculation logic, so every analysis after yours starts on solid ground. Dashboards, reports, and data visualizations people return to because they answer the question, load fast, and never mislead on a scale or a label. The quality evidence behind the reporting: validation checks, reconciliation reports, and issue logs that hold up in an audit. AI-assisted analysis as standard practice: coding assistants and language models across the lifecycle, with your judgment on top. In time, the firm itself: new capabilities, tools, and lines of business you help spin up. Who you are You are precise with numbers and suspicious of unexplained ones: an anomaly is a thread to pull, not a footnote to add. You move easily between a stakeholder's question and the data that can answer it, and you would rather deliver one number the program can trust than ten it cannot. You communicate clearly, adapt across roles and clients, and care about creating public value. You experiment, fail, learn, and repeat quickly. You would rather own an outcome than be handed a task. What you bring Practical command of SQL and spreadsheets, with scripting (Python or R) where it makes the work faster or safer. The discipline of defined measures: documented rules, reconciled sources, and reports that refresh without surprises. The judgment to choose the chart that serves the reader, and the restraint to leave out the one that does not. The precision to work where accuracy and auditability are not optional. What you'll need U.S. citizenship (this initial engagement may be staffed by U.S. citizens only) and the ability to obtain a Public Trust determination. This is a hybrid role based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, and it requires commuting into DC regularly. Everything else, the years, the certifications, the specific tools, we ask in the application and get into during the interview. What we offer A high-performing team of developers, engineers, data scientists, architects, and strategists solving complex, real-world problems, with work that runs from strategy formulation to hands-on implementation. We develop people across roles and clients, with extensive onboarding and sponsored training and profe
