Cruise Director
Charming, energetic, knowledgeable, very well-organized, the Cruise Director is the main point of contact for guests onboard the ship (ansprechsperson). They are key to a first-time guest becoming a repeater, making sure they feel welcomed and pampered throughout the cruise. Their mission is to keep guests both informed and entertained on board the ship, ensuring an unforgettable experience.
Requirements:
• native or near-native proficiency in German and English; a third language is a plus
• at least 3-4 minimum required years of experience in a similar working environment and position (experience ABOARD cruise ships, with knowledge of at least one of the major river destinations in Europe (Danube, Rhine, Main, Seine, Rhône & Saône) - will be considered an advantage )
• very good public speaking skills, lectures with ease on related topics
• well-organized, very diplomatic, a people-person at all times, pro-activeness is a big plus
• extremely good complaint management skills
• have a passion for service
• quick decision making and analytical abilities, reacts promptly in unforeseen situations, remains calm and collected in a high-stress, fast-paced environment
• a good communicator, with guests and ship management alike
• pleasant and energetic demeanor
• an ability to handle diversity in terms of cultures, groups, individuals and situations
Responsibilities:
• knowledgeable at all times about the cruise routes, excursions and be the passengers’ go-to person for information regarding the itinerary, destinations and shore excursions
• act as main host of the cruise and take responsibility for all guest-related topics
• create cruise plans and daily programs, ensuring that everything runs smoothly both for guests as well as for the hotel/nautical side
• hold embarkation and disembarkation briefings, informative talks and live presentations for up to 180 guests, awareness while cruising: inform guests on sights worth seeing via P.A. system in a timely manner
• offer light entertainment options and present fun quizzes and trivia games in the evenings
• take excursion bookings and confirm buses and tour guides present, explain in details, sell and account for land excursion bookings, collaborate with outside agencies for buses and guides / order accordingly, ensure smooth operation of said land excursions and properly communicate and coordinate with company office
• promote s a warm, pleasant and friendly environment on board
• always in contact with Heads of Department and Senior Management rotate smoothly between various itineraries and ships with different procedures, personnel and management when necessary
