Costs Lawyer The Opportunity A well-established and highly regarded law firm is seeking an experienced Costs Lawyer to join its growing team. The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload of claimant Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence costs matters across both fast track and multi-track claims. This role is suited to someone with approximately 12 months to five years' experience, either in-house or within a specialist costs practice. You will be responsible for managing your own caseload from instruction through to conclusion, with a particular focus on costs budgeting, negotiations and advocacy. Key Responsibilities • Managing a full caseload of claimant costs matters from inception to conclusion. • Negotiating the settlement of costs in litigated and non-litigated Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence claims. • Advising fee earners on costs issues and supporting negotiations where required. • Preparing summary assessment schedules, costs breakdowns and formal bills for detailed assessment or Part 8 proceedings. • Drafting Replies to Points of Dispute. • Preparing and managing Costs Budgets, including budget revisions. • Representing clients at Costs Case Management Conferences (CCMCs). • Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team. About You The ideal candidate will have: • Around 12 months to five years' experience in claimant Personal Injury costs. • Experience handling both fast track and multi-track costs matters. • Confidence managing a caseload independently from start to finish. • Strong knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules and the detailed assessment process. • Experience drafting formal bills, Replies to Points of Dispute and Precedent H, R and Q. • Experience attending CCMCs and conducting budget discussions. • Excellent negotiation, drafting and communication skills. • The ability to work effectively to deadlines and performance targets. • A high level of organisation, accuracy and attention to detail. • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office. A legal qualification (LLB, GDL or LPC) is advantageous, as is previous in-house costs experience and familiarity with case management or costs drafting software.
