Organization: Work-A-Latte Coffee Shop Jobs Program (Chester, South Carolina) Reports To: Executive Director Position Type: Full-Time, On-Site Position Overview WorkAbility is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating inclusive job training opportunities for persons with special needs. We are opening Work-A-Latte, a coffee shop-based jobs training program for persons with special needs, with anticipated occupancy in our new space in August. The Coffee Shop Manager & Job Training Coordinator will oversee all daily operations of our coffee shop and direct the career preparation services for program participants. This role blends business management with vocational education—ensuring that each individual gains meaningful, transferable job skills while helping the shop remain a warm, welcoming community destination. Key Responsibilities Operational Management • Oversee all aspects of daily coffee shop operations including staffing, scheduling, inventory, and financial tracking. • Ensure high standards of quality, cleanliness, safety, and customer service. • Train and supervise staff and volunteers to maintain consistent product preparation and service. • Manage relationships with vendors and coordinate orders for supplies and ingredients. • Develop and implement systems to balance program goals with revenue and cost efficiency. Job Training Coordination • Assist in providing and supervising structured, hands-on training to individuals with special needs in areas such as customer service, food and beverage preparation, and workplace safety. • Create, and assist in creating, individualized training plans in collaboration with program staff and caregivers. • Model positive work habits, teamwork, communication skills, and professionalism. • Monitor and document participant progress toward skill mastery and employment readiness. • Coordinate placement support as participants “graduate” from the training program. Community Engagement • Represent the coffee shop and training program at local community events and partnerships. • Build relationships with local employers to foster post-program job opportunities. • Collaborate with nonprofit leadership to promote the shop’s mission to donors, customers, and supporters. Qualifications • Be at least 21 years old, with a four (4) year degree from an accredited college or university in the human services or related field and two (2) years’ experience in administration or supervision in the human services field or • Have a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the human services or related field and one (1) year experience in administration or supervision in the human services field. • Experience working with persons with special needs in an educational, training, or employment setting. • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to foster a positive, inclusive environment. • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities. • Basic proficiency in point-of-sale systems and Excel or QuickBooks. • Current SERV Safe certification (or willingness to obtain within 60 days). Preferred: • Background in vocational training, special education, or workforce development. • Experience in coffee shop, café, or restaurant management, preferred, with small business or community café experience preferred. • Experience building community partnerships or coordinating volunteers. Work Schedule & Environment • Typically weekdays, with occasional weekend events or meetings. • On-site supervision of a small workforce development team and program participants. • Active, hands-on leadership in both café operations and training delivery. Compensation & Benefits · Base: $43,000 - $46,000 annual. · Bonus: up to $5,000 - $8,000 annual; calculated and paid quarterly based on o Hitting revenue targets, and o Successfully hitting career preparation services standards • Paid time off and holidays. • Opportunities for professional development and program advancement.
