About the Opportunity
Ellucian is seeking a Cloud Database Engineer to join our innovative and collaborative Cloud Operations team. In this role, you will help support the cloud database platforms behind Ellucian's SaaS and Managed Cloud solutions for higher education.
Working alongside experienced database and platform engineers, you will help maintain the reliability, performance, and security of our cloud database environment while building expertise in automation, cloud technologies, and modern database operations.

Where You Will Make an Impact
Operate:
• Support production and non-production cloud databases across AWS, including PostgreSQL, Aurora PostgreSQL, Oracle, and NoSQL technologies.
• Perform database administration activities including patching, upgrades, configuration, backups, restores, and routine maintenance.
• Support high availability, replication, and disaster recovery processes through regular testing and operational preparedness under established procedures.
Automate:
• Contribute to automation for database provisioning, deployments, backups, and operational tasks using scripting and Infrastructure as Code practices.
• Support database deployments through CI/CD pipelines and modern automation tools.
Adopt AI:
• Leverage approved AI-assisted tools to improve database operations while following established governance and security practices.
• Review AI-assisted outputs and follow established approval, validation, and audit processes.
Monitor & Optimize:
• Monitor database health, availability, and performance using dashboards, alerts, and observability tools.
• Troubleshoot production issues, participate in incident response, and assist in root cause analysis activities.
• Assist with database performance tuning and support ongoing capacity planning efforts.
Secure:
• Apply established security practices including encryption, least-privilege access, audit logging, and data protection standards.
• Support compliance initiatives related to FERPA, SOC 2, and other applicable regulatory frameworks.
Collaborate:
• Partner with Product Engineering, Platform, Security, and Data teams to support reliable application delivery.
• Share knowledge with teammates while continuing to build your technical expertise through collaboration, mentorship, and continuous learning.
What You Will Bring
• 2–3 years of experience supporting production databases or equivalent experience in database administration, cloud operations, or infrastructure.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, Oracle, or other relational database platforms.
• Experience working in Linux environments and writing scripts using Python, Bash, or similar languages.
• Experience with AWS is preferred . Candidates with experience supporting Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), or other major cloud providers are encouraged to apply.
• Understanding of database backup, recovery, monitoring, performance tuning, and high availability concepts.
• Exposure to Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, or database deployment tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Liquibase, Flyway, or similar is preferred.
• Familiarity with observability platforms such as Datadog, Grafana, CloudWatch, New Relic, or similar.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Curiosity, adaptability, and an interest in modern cloud operations, automation, and AI-assisted engineering practices.
