Position Overview
The Certified Nurse Aide I (NA I) provides essential personal care and support services to clients in their homes under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This position requires a compassionate, dependable professional who is committed to delivering safe and competent care in accordance with nursing standards and state regulations.
Education & Qualifications
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Successful completion of an accredited Nurse Aide program.
• Active listing with the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry (NCHHS, Division of Health Service Regulation and/or Board of Nursing).
• Ability to follow established care plans and demonstrate accountability in all aspects of care.
Key Responsibilities
Personal Care & Daily Living:
• Assist with bathing (bed, tub, shower, sitz), grooming, mouth care, skin and hair care, handwashing, and nail care.
• Support dressing/undressing and bed-making.
• Assist with mobility, transfers, ambulation, range of motion exercises, and the use of lifts.
Elimination & Specimen Collection:
• Aid with toileting, bowel/bladder retraining, and perineal/catheter care.
• Collect and test specimens as directed.
• Assist with enemas, rectal tubes, flatus bags, and drainage devices as instructed.
Nutrition:
• Prepare clients for meals and assist with feeding when necessary.
• Monitor intake and output, as well as fluid restrictions or encouragement.
Safety & Special Procedures:
• Always follow infection control and safety protocols.
• Carry out delegated tasks with competence and within defined scope of practice.
Accountability & Supervision
• The Registered Nurse retains accountability and responsibility for client care.
• Tasks are delegated on a client-by-client basis and only when:
• The task is routine and predictable.
• The task follows an established sequence of steps.
• The task does not require ongoing assessment, interpretation, or decision-making.
• The task does not endanger the client’s life or well-being.
• The RN will validate NA I competencies prior to delegation and will continuously monitor the client’s status and response to care.
