Position Summary Provide direct support to ensure the safe and efficient stowing, discharge, and loading of vessels. Strong understanding of cargo loading software is an important part of this role. Primary Duties and Responsibilities • Plan vessel load and discharge with software such as Cargo-Max to ensure proper stability, sequencing and cargo compatibility in the stow plan. • Support all aspects of cargo operations and required vessel activities during port calls. • Report operational activity to the Cargo Operations Manager and provide additional assistance as needed. • Promote and support the Safety Program, including participation in investigations related to port and stevedoring recordable or lost-time incidents. • Coordinate all elements of vessel arrivals and departures, including berth requests, line handlers, and cargo operations at assigned ports. • Issue vessel arrival and departure notifications. • Attend vessels primarily during Jacksonville port calls and coordinate necessary shoreside marine services. • Work closely with Ship’s Crew, Stevedores, Terminal Operations Team, and Port Engineers to ensure seamless cargo and vessel operations. • Conduct and monitor vessel stability, stress, and trim calculations before, during, and after cargo operations, primarily in Jacksonville. • Verify proper segregation and stowage of hazardous cargo in accordance with vessel requirements. • Assist with livestock operations, heavy-lift cargo, cargo securing, bulk fructose operations, and LNG bunkering as required. • Support cargo lashing inventory management and inspections for company-chartered vessels. • Develop, maintain, and update vessel stowage plans and utilization reports under the direction of the Cargo Operations Manager. • Prepare final cargo lists and operational reports for each port call. • Maintain vessel schedules and take proactive measures to minimize port delays. • Contribute to Continuous Improvement initiatives and key cargo operation projects. • Adhere to the Integrated Management System covering Quality, Environmental, and Safety ISO standards. • Ensure all actions comply with company policies. Secondary Duties and Responsibilities • Process, code, and update invoices and related financial reports. • Assist the Terminal Team with yard cargo transfers as needed. • Prepare and administer vessel clearance documentation with U.S. Customs. • Maintain full operational proficiency in Mainsail 10 and Spinnaker software systems. • Support cargo lashing inventory control and inspections for company-chartered vessels. • Assist the company in preparing quotes for non-containerized cargo (terminal and stevedoring services). • Support company initiatives and objectives as required. • Participate in or lead process improvement projects related to terminal and cargo operations. • Perform other related duties as assigned, consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Authority and Responsibility Level of Authority: Operates with minimal direct supervision, exercising broad discretion in selecting, developing, and coordinating methods within established company policies. Confidentiality: Regular access to sensitive information that could be detrimental to the company if disclosed. Financial Responsibility: Authorized to purchase supplies necessary for personal or immediate team job functions. Required Skills • Ability to read and interpret business publications, technical documents, and governmental regulations. • Strong written communication skills for reports, correspondence, and procedural documentation. • Ability to present information effectively and respond to inquiries from senior management, managers, clients, customers, and the public. • Proficiency in basic mathematical calculations, including whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage varied operational variables. • Ability to interpret written, oral, and schedule-based instructions. • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred. Education and Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. • Minimum five (5) years of experience in the marine transportation industry. • Working knowledge of vessel liner service, breakbulk, containership, intermodal transportation, and cargo loading operations. • Experience in container operations, including ship stability, cargo planning, loading processes, and related software systems. • Experience with CargoMax, Mainsail 10, Spinnaker, and Traffic Control systems preferred. • Hazardous cargo certification and professional designations such as VSO/FSO, CTL/CLTD, or CPE preferred. • Training in Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, or other process improvement methodologies beneficial. • Sea-going experience as a USCG-licensed Deck Officer is advantageous. Physical Requirements • Sedentary work, involving exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and minimal force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
