About this Role The LAR Carbon Markets Lead role provides region-wide strategic leadership for carbon markets and carbon finance as an essential financing pillar for high-integrity Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) across the Latin America Region (LAR). This position focuses on aligning TNC’s global carbon markets strategy with regional endeavors to deploy carbon finance sustainably, aiming for durable outcomes in climate, biodiversity, and community welfare. The role’s objective is to maximize the Latin America Region’s mitigation potential by fast-tracking the development of high-integrity carbon initiatives. As a senior individual contributor, this position offers strategic clarity and direction, engaging in high-quality interactions with partners, investors, and policymakers across the region. Working collaboratively with TNC Business Units in Latin America, the position ensures that carbon market strategies reflect ecological foundations and ambition, transitioning these into scalable carbon finance pathways. Responsibilities • Develops and advances long-term regional strategies for carbon markets and carbon finance aligned with TNC’s conservation priorities. • Serves as the regional lead and primary point of coordination for carbon markets and carbon finance in LAR. • Provides technical guidance on emerging compliance and voluntary market mechanisms. • Integrates TNC’s global carbon markets strategy into coherent regional guidance. • Disseminates best practices and lessons learned to enhance carbon markets literacy. • Builds strategic alliances with public and private partners to unlock long-term carbon finance. • Represents TNC externally in carbon market discussions across the region. • Travels up to 25% both domestically and internationally, and works occasional weekends and evenings. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, resource management, or related fields. • Demonstrated experience leading complex projects in multistakeholder environments. • Deep knowledge of carbon markets and carbon finance mechanisms relevant to Latin America. • Experience leading through influence in matrixed organizations. • Strong analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills. • Fluency in English, with proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese strongly preferred.
