Materials Buyer Location: Gloucestershire The Company My client is a well-established, family-owned construction company with over 50 years of experience delivering high-quality groundworks, civil engineering, building repairs, landscaping and electrical projects across the South West, Wales and the Midlands. They pride themselves on quality, reliability and building long-term relationships with their clients and supply chain. The Role They are seeking an organised and commercially minded Materials Buyer to join their growing team based in Gloucestershire. This is a key role responsible for sourcing, purchasing and coordinating the timely delivery of materials across multiple construction projects while achieving the best value for the business. Key Responsibilities • Source and procure construction materials, plant and consumables for multiple live projects. • Obtain competitive quotations and negotiate pricing, lead times and supplier terms. • Raise and manage purchase orders using the company's procurement systems. • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and new suppliers. • Coordinate deliveries to ensure materials arrive on site in line with project programmes. • Monitor stock levels where applicable and minimise waste. • Resolve supplier queries, delivery issues and invoice discrepancies. • Work closely with commercial and operational teams to identify cost-saving opportunities. • Ensure purchased materials meet required specifications and quality standards. • Keep accurate purchasing records and produce procurement reports when required. • Monitor market trends and material price fluctuations. • Ensure compliance with company procurement procedures and health and safety requirements. Skills & Experience Essential: • Previous experience in a buying or procurement role within the construction industry. • Good knowledge of construction materials and suppliers. • Strong negotiation and communication skills. • Excellent organisational and time management abilities. • Commercial awareness and attention to detail. • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities. • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office. • Experience purchasing for groundworks, civils, maintenance or landscaping projects. • Knowledge of procurement or ERP systems. • Understanding of construction contracts and project delivery.
