Back End Software Engineer - 6 months - Glasgow - Outside IR35
Day rate - Circa £480
Harvey Nash's public sector client are currently looking to recruit a Back-End Software Engineer to join their team based Glasgow/Remote for an initial 6-month period.
Main Duties:
• Work across technical teams formed of supplier, contract and permanent resource
• Develop new features in a secure way in line with industry best-practices
• Provide production support and support on fixing application issues
• Identifying production and non-production application defects
• Train and knowledge share with colleagues
• Looking ahead for future opportunities or blockers, and ensuring decisions by teams align with the technical direction
• Identify operational improvements and work to ensure a stable service that can be enhanced
• Anticipate and mitigate against project challenges or risks
Essential Skills:
• Technology knowledge - Demonstrable experience in the minimum of 4 Of the below:
• Particular working experience with Java 8+
• Experience in using Spring/Spring Boot frameworks
• Experience in designing and developing RESTful microservices
• Experience writing unit and integration tests
• Experience with CI/CD, including build tools (Jenkins, Groovy/Gradle, Maven, etc)
• Experience with AWS, Docker containers & associated tooling
• General knowledge - Demonstrable Experience in a minimum of three of the below practices and design patterns:
• Server-side and front-end coding
• Programming Best Practices (i.e. Clean Code, SOLID, etc.)
• Are familiar with good continuous integration and continuous delivery principles
• Experience of microservice design patterns
• Demonstrable Experience in a minimum of 3 of these bridging the gap between the technical and non-technical
• Translate technical concepts between infrastructure, delivery management and service management so they are understood by all
• Able to speak on behalf of technical and development teams and facilitate the relationships with indirect stakeholders
• Able to share knowledge and mentor (potentially non-technical) colleagues
Desirable Skills & Experience
• Proficiency in both Java (particular in Sprint Boot) and JS would be advantageous
• Knowledge of multiple JS frameworks and tools (e.g. React, Angular, Vue, NodeJS, Redux, Typescript, Webpack, Jest)
• Working experience with MySQL compatible DBs (MySQL, RDS, Aurora, MariaDB)
• Experience with Docker/Bash/Shell Scripting
