FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF AN ASSISTANT RESEARCHER (M/F)

1. Associação Biopolis is opening
an international call for an Assistant Researcher to carry out scientific
research activities at CIBIO - Biodiversity and Genetic Resources Research
Centre, InBIO Associated Laboratory at the Campus de Vairão, Portugal with a
permanent position, under the terms of the Labour Code, within the scope of the
umbrella program with the ref. CEECINSTLA_00020_2022,
entitled " Procedimento Concursal de Apoio Institucional –
Laboratórios Associados” ,
funded by FCT/MCTES .
Within the scope of the above-mentioned
program, the selected candidate must carry out research and development
activities and all other scientific and technical activities within the scope
of the Biopolis/CIBIO-InBIO Association's mission, as well as:
a) Participate in the conception,
development and execution of research and development projects and related
scientific and technical activities and in their transposition into research
projects and decision support programme contracts;
b) Directing the execution of
work carried out within the scope of the research and development projects for
which they are responsible;
c) To collaborate in the
development of training programmes in scientific research and development
methodology;
d) Monitor the research work
carried out by grant holders, research trainees and research assistants and
participate in their training;
e) Guide and participate in the
institution's training programmes.
2. Applicable legislation

7/2009, of 12 February, in its current wording.

4. The workplace is Associação Biopolis/CIBIO - Centro de Investigação em
Biodiversidade e Recursos Genéticos, InBIO Laboratório Associado, located on
the Campus de Vairão, Vila do Conde, Porto, Portugal, and may involve travel in
Portugal and abroad.
5. The monthly salary corresponds
to the category of Assistant Researcher in the scientific research career, in
accordance with Annex I of Decree-Law no. 124/99, of 20 April - index 195
(3427.59 €).
6. The call is open to national,
foreign and stateless candidates who have held a doctoral degree in Biological
Sciences or a related scientific area for at least 3 years and have a
scientific and professional curriculum vitae that reveals a profile appropriate
to the activity to be carried out, demonstrating scientific independence over
the last 3 years. The candidate's scientific independence is defined by originality,
scientific capacity and international recognition and affirmation, or by
doctoral and post-doctoral supervision, or by the ability to raise national
and/or international funding. If the
doctorate was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply
with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of 16 August, and any
formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the date the contract is
signed.
7. The general requirements for
admission are those defined in the previous point, and in specific terms:
7.1 Candidates must have at least
3 years of post-doctoral experience and demonstrate a track record of research
in the field of freshwater ecology, aquatic biodiversity conservation, and molecular
ecology, with particular emphasis on aquatic ecosystems in the global south.
7.2 Candidates must have proven
experience in biodiversity surveys based on water environmental DNA, including
(i) the work with stakeholders to design eDNA biodiversity surveys, (ii) the
survey of cryptic and endangered species in aquatic ecosystems, (iii) the
collection of biodiversity data to understand the ecology of freshwater
ecosystems and support their restoration. Relevant contributions to the state
of the art will be valued in any of these areas.
7.3 Candidates must also have
proven experience in the survey of aquatic biodiversity and endangered species
based on conventional sampling methods, based for instance on electrofishing,
visual underwater surveys, and sweep netting, among others. Experience in the
use of molecular and conventional survey techniques in tropical ecosystems will
be valued.
7.4 Candidates must have experience in
participating in and leading research projects and demonstrate their ability to
obtain national and foreign funding in competitive tenders.
7.5 Candidates must have experience in advanced
training activities, in particular in supervising master's and doctoral
students.
7.6 Candidates must submit a work
plan that is identical to that of the CEEC Individual call (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/contratacaodoutorados/empregocientifico/docs/guiao_candidatura.pdf)
and with the same time horizon. Briefly, the Work Plan should consist of:

criteria:
• o Curriculum vitae with a weighting factor of 55% considering; i) Scientific
publications - books, book chapters, articles in scientific journals and
international conference proceedings in which the candidate was author or
co-author, ii) coordination and participation in research projects, with the
submission of national and international applications and the execution of
funded research projects being assessed; iii) participation in research services
provided to public entities and other stakeholders in the environment and water
resources sectors; iv) ability to lead research teams; v) supervision and
guidance of master's and doctoral students; vi) recognition by the
international scientific community: parameter that takes into account eg.
participation in programme committees for scientific events.
• o Work plan with a weighting factor of 40 per cent, taking into account the
relevance and innovative nature of the proposed research plan (based on the
state of the art in the scientific area in question and previous work carried
out by the candidate); progress beyond the current state of the art;
suitability of the methodology adopted, feasibility of the work plan and fit
with CIBIO-InBIO's R&D strategy; clear identification of the mission and
scientific challenges addressed by the research plan and its alignment with the
objectives of the 2030 Agenda.
• a letter of motivation with a weighting factor of 5% considering the reasons
why the application is being submitted, and demonstrating that the candidate
has the appropriate profile for the position advertised and fulfils all the
general and special admission requirements.
09. The final classification
system for candidates is expressed on a scale of 0 to 100.
10. The jury will decide by means
of a reasoned roll-call vote in accordance with the selection criteria adopted
and publicized, and abstentions will not be allowed.
11. Minutes are drawn up of the
jury meetings, which contain a summary of the meetings, as well as the votes
cast by each member and their respective reasons.
12. After finalising the
application of the selection criteria, the jury will draw up an ordered list of
successful and unsuccessful candidates with their respective rankings.
13.
Panel ’ s final decision shall be validated
by the leader of the institution, who is also in charge of deciding about the
hiring.
14. Applications:
14.1 Applications must be

14.2 Applications must include
the documents proving the conditions set out in points 6 and 7 for admission to
this call, namely:
i) Copy of the PhD certificate or
diploma and proof of degree recognition, when applicable;

candidates in accordance with point 7.5;

14.3 The application period runs
from 1/10/2024 until 12/11/2024.
The expected starting date of the
contract is 16 December 2024.
15. Candidates who formalise
their application incorrectly or who fail to meet the requirements of this
competition will be disqualified from taking part in the competition. The
selection board has the right to ask any candidate, in case of doubt, to produce
documentary evidence of their declarations.
16. False statements made by
candidates will be penalised in accordance with the law.
17. The list of admitted and
excluded candidates and the final ranking list will be sent to candidates by
email.
18. Deadline for complaints and
final decision: Once notified, candidates have 10 working days to comment to
the email to [email protected]. Within 60 working days of the closing date for the
submission of applications, the final decisions of the selection panel are handed
down and approved.
19. This competition is intended
exclusively to fill the vacancy indicated, and may be terminated until the
final list of candidates has been approved, and will expire when the job on
offer has been filled.
