YOUR TASKS • At least 50% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in preparation of a doctoral dissertation. This doctoral research will focus on product-system design for Industry 5.0. The specific topic within this field will be further defined in consultation with the supervisors of your PhD. • You will assist in the teaching activities at the department, in the field of Industrial Design - CAD Modeling and Engineering. You will supervise students during exercises, lab sessions, and project work. You’re co-supervising and co-managing the different workspaces and labs. • You will assist in the internal and external services of the department. This includes, for example, participating in Science Day and organizing workshops for programs such as “Knappe Koppen”, campus visits, expositions, SID-ins, etc. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR • You hold a degree of Master in Industrial Design Engineering Technology (preferably) or you hold a master’s degree in another field but can credibly demonstrate that you have acquired the expertise through other means. The degree requirement needs to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted. • You are interested in academic and/or project-based research and services. • You possess (demonstrable) scientific skills. • You have knowledge of CAD modeling and engineering (preferably with prior experience in Siemens NX) and are proficient in various aspects of design engineering (rapid prototyping, CAD drafting, various manufacturing methods, prototyping, etc.). • Teaching experience and participation in further training, conferences, or didactic skills acquired through extracurricular activities are considered an asset. • You have excellent teaching and communication skills. • You are enterprising, professional, independent, and meticulous. • You have a clear vision on research and education. • You have strong communication skills. • You are a team player with a critical yet open, constructive, and creative mindset, and you are eager to contribute to an ambitious educational and research project. WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU • We offer you a two-year appointment, which may be renewed twice for two years, on condition that the previous term was given a positive evaluation. Attention: If you have been previously appointed as a junior assistant or doctoral fellow at a university within the Flemish Community, this appointment will be deducted from the maximum term of appointment, which is six years at the most according to the Codex of Higher Education. • Your appointment will start on 1 November 2026 at the earliest. • Your remuneration will be determined according to salary scale AAP3.
