Advertised Position Title: Assistant Coach Women's Basketball Job Description: Assist the head coach in carrying out their responsibilities. Instruct team members about rules and changes in the rules and teach fundamentals of the sport as outlined by the head coach. Help in the planning and implementation of both in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight programs. Essential Functions: • Has knowledge and background in the sport of basketball. • Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the collegiate sports program. • Teaches sports techniques, playing rules, strategies and playing tactics. • Supervises and conducts practices and contests safely, supervising transportation. • Assists the head coach in carrying out his or her responsibilities. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: • Thorough knowledge of all athletics policies approved by the NJCAA, OCCAC and Owens Community College. • Understand FERPA and the proper administrative line of command and refer all student and parent requests or grievances through proper channels. • Knowledge and background in basketball. • Teach sports techniques, playing rules, strategies and playing tactics. • Condition athletes appropriately for activities requiring endurance, strength and agility. • Conduct practices and contests safely, supervising transportation. • Assist the head coach in carrying out his or her responsibilities. • Instruct team members about rules and changes in the rules and teach fundamentals of the sport as outlined by the head coach. • Help in the planning and implementation of both in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight programs. Other Characteristics: • Is accountable for personal actions on and off campus properties. • Arrive early enough before practice, contests and meetings to adequately prepare and remain long enough afterward to help players with problems or to become involved in staff discussions. • Never criticizes, admonishes or argues with head coach or any staff member within ears or eyes of players, parents, or fans. • Strive to improve skills by attending clinics and using resources made available by the head coach. Minimum Education/Experience: • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) • Previous coaching experience in basketball at the high school/club level, preferably at the collegiate level. • Previous collegiate playing experience preferred. • Must have an acceptable criminal background check. • Must have a valid driver’s license without driving restrictions. Job Classification: Staff Duty Days: Varies Semester to Semester Work Schedule: depends on schedule Grant Funded Position: No - Not Grant Funded FLSA Status: United States of America (Non-Exempt) Pay Basis: Period Activity Pay Hiring Range $14.57-$16.40 Retirement System: SERS - SERS (Retirement System Classification)
