About the position As a YMCA Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all pool patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies. You will maintain a safe and clean aquatic environment and provide exceptional service to all members and guests Responsibilities • Maintains active surveillance of the pool area. • Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergencies immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model. Completes related reports as required. • Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants, and other staff. • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code. • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. • Checks the pool, and Lake for hazardous conditions when arriving. • Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action. • Attends all staff meetings and in-service training. • Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements • Minimum age of 16. • Certifications: YMCA Lifeguard, ASHI Basic Life Support (ASHI CPR Pro), Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen, Waterfront, and Water Park. • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness. • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
