Accounts Payable & Payroll Accountant Salary: $70-80k Direct Hire | Hybrid in Boston, MA Position Summary Our client, a well-known non-profit, is seeking an Accounts Payable & Payroll Accountant to manage key accounting functions, including accounts payable, payroll accounting, general ledger activities, and financial reporting support. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of vendor payments and payroll transactions while maintaining compliance with applicable federal and Massachusetts regulations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable working collaboratively across departments in a mission-driven organization. Must-Have Qualifications • Accounts Payable experience, including full-cycle AP processes • Payroll accounting experience, including journal entries and reconciliations • Strong understanding of debits and credits and general accounting principles • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment Preferred Qualifications • Inventory accounting experience • General accounting experience • Nonprofit accounting experience • Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge or other ERP/accounting systems • Experience with WorkPlace purchasing system • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field Key Responsibilities Accounts Payable • Manage the full accounts payable cycle, including vendor setup, invoice review, coding, approval workflows, and weekly check and ACH payment processing • Maintain accurate vendor records, including IRS Form W-9 documentation and annual 1099 reporting requirements • Review expense accounts and assist with month-end accruals Payroll Accounting • Maintain payroll data accuracy and partner with Human Resources to support payroll processing • Ensure compliance with federal, Massachusetts, and local payroll tax and wage regulations • Prepare and reconcile payroll journal entries, payroll liabilities, and related accounts • Support quarterly and year-end payroll reporting, including tax filings such as Form 941 General Ledger & Month-End Close • Prepare journal entries and perform general ledger account analysis and reconciliations during the monthly close process • Support financial reporting activities and ensure accuracy of accounting records • Assist with administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of financial systems Inventory Accounting & Reconciliation • Maintain accounting records related to inventory transactions and ensure accurate financial system reporting • Perform monthly reconciliations between inventory systems and the general ledger • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, adjustments, transfers, and write-offs • Partner with inventory management teams on physical and cycle counts, variance analysis, and related journal entries Audit, Compliance & Process Improvement • Prepare audit schedules, supporting documentation, and materials for internal and external audits • Support internal control initiatives and process improvements to enhance accounting accuracy and efficiency • Assist with other accounting and finance-related projects as needed Required Skills Accounts Payable, Payroll Accounting, Payroll Reconciliations, Journal Entries, General Ledger, Account Reconciliations, Month-End Close, Debits & Credits, Excel, ERP Systems, Financial Reporting, Inventory Accounting, Audit Support, and Process Improvement.
