Description
Description We have an opening for a night shift Cutting Machine Attendant for the Main Plant. Summary Operates controls for cutting machinery, conveyors, and pumps. Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions Operates controls for machinery which cleans and cuts raw materials into relish, salad cubes, chips, stuffers, and strips and which pricks whole pickles. Operates controls for pumps which transfer raw materials from the wet hopper to the processing line and for the conveyors which move raw materials along the line to the cutting machinery. Operates controls for pumps or conveyors which move processed materials from the line to the tanks. Regulates the flow of pickles from the hopper to the cutters to ensure the correct amount of cut product. Notes and records information on machinery down time, number of workers on a processing line and number of bushels processed. Checks product after inspection or after cutting. Evaluates cut and texture for relish and/or salad cubes. Evaluates for ground rot, softness, bloating and size for whole pickles. Evaluates strips and chips for cut. Selects samples of strips, chips or whole pickles from various areas to evaluate breakage. Separates defective product, weights and calculates percentage if defects exist. Completes downtime sheet daily. Once machine is operational and problem-free, performs duties of Cutting Inspector for much of the shift. Follows safety rules and company policies. Other duties Inspects and removes foreign objects out of raw materials on processing line conveyor before the cutting machinery for relish, salad cubes and chips. Uses pusher to clear clutter if jammed. Must be alert for metal and other trash which may damage cutter. Grades processed pepper and other items as needed. Visually inspects incoming products on delivery. Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, project teams, etc. as appropriate. Receives written instructions from packing schedule or verbal instructions from supervisor on above tasks and performs other work as directed by supervisor. Requirements Knowledge, Skills and Abilities High school graduate or equivalent needed. Ability to read, write and speak English required for job tasks. Math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions required for job tasks. Supervisory Responsibilities None Machines, Equipment, Tools Used Cutting machinery for chips, strips, salad cubes and relish. Pricking machine, pumps, hoses, conveyors, knife, pusher, scales, thermometer, calculator. Physical Demands Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time. Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward. Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling. Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time. Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operates machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws, and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach, performs mechanical or skilled trades or a non-repetitive nature such as carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc. Work Environment Works inside, subject to some seasonal temperature variations and frequent wetting of feet from job tasks. Fumes from hot pepper and chlorine. Hearing protection required because of machinery noise. Head cover and beard cover required. Gloves and air mask required at times.
