Description
Job Overview
Wargaming Belgrade is looking for a creative 2D Artist who thrives on variety, enjoys early-stage visual development, and sees constraints as an opportunity for innovation. In this role, creativity is your strongest asset. You will explore visual directions, develop concepts, and shape the mood and atmosphere of in-game events and marketing initiatives from the earliest stages. Our 2D Art team is responsible for the visual identity of the World of Warships franchise, creating everything from marketing key art and in-game store graphics to client-facing content, backgrounds, animatics, and skins. While our visual style is grounded in realistic naval art, built on photobash and 3D foundations, we're looking for someone who can bring fresh ideas and a strong artistic vision. You will take creative ownership of complex tasks, develop visual solutions from scratch, collaborate closely with Art Directors, and help shape the creative direction of our projects.
Reports to
2D Team Lead
What will you do?
Illustrations: create high-quality promotional illustrations, produce polished art for in-game shops and publishing, including loading screens, banners, previews, event backgrounds, and special offer images
Visual Development: early sketches for events and marketing campaigns. Some skins concepts (in case of ships it’s a mix of hard surf and environment concept art)
Workflow Execution: utilize photobash, matte painting, and 3D renders (Blender) to build detailed, realistic scenes with ships, environments, and props. Most often, 3D models will be provided by the 3D team
Creative Ownership: take full ownership of your work from the sketch phase to final polish, with minimal guidance and strong attention to detail
In-House Collaboration: prepare sketches and concept drafts to pass to teammates for further refinement. Work closely with the Art Director, publishing teams, and other departments to propose visual solutions and ensure alignment
Problem Solving: identify design challenges quickly and propose creative, practical solutions during art reviews and collaborative meetings
What are we looking for?
3+ years of experience working as a Concept Artist, 2D Artist, or Illustrator in the GameDev industry
Expert-level skills in Adobe Photoshop
Hands-on experience with 3D software (ideally Blender) to block out scenes, set lighting, and render bases for overpaint
Excellent understanding of composition, lighting, color theory, perspective, and design principles, with the ability to clearly convey form and atmosphere
Experienced with matte painting and photobash techniques
Upper-Intermediate (B2) or higher English knowledge
What additional skills will help you stand out?
Stronger 3D skills: modeling, texturing, or sculpting (e.g., ZBrush, 3D-Coat).
Experience giving precise, structured, and constructive art feedback to in-house team members
Ability to adapt to different art styles when needed (realistic, semi-realistic, stylized)
Exceptional sketching skills for storyboards and quick proof-of-concept designs
AAA experience is a strong plus
What would we like to see in your portfolio?
