Job Title: 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant (Complex Needs)
Location: Warwickshire
Contract Type: Full-time, Ongoing
Salary: £85 – £95 per day
The Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and experienced 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Warwickshire. The role involves working closely with a student who has complex learning needs, including communication difficulties and sensory processing disorder. You will play a pivotal role in providing the necessary academic and emotional support to help the child thrive in their school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide 1:1 tailored support to a student with complex learning needs, including communication difficulties and sensory processing issues.
• Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering activities that cater to the child’s unique learning style and developmental level.
• Implement communication strategies, including the use of visual aids or alternative communication methods (e.g., PECS or Makaton).
• Help manage sensory sensitivities by creating a calm and structured environment conducive to learning.
• Collaborate with the SENCO, teaching staff, and external professionals to ensure that the child’s educational and social needs are met.
• Record and report the student’s progress to the school team and parents, addressing any concerns as needed.
• Provide emotional and behavioural support to encourage the child’s positive engagement in school activities.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
• Have experience supporting children with SEN, particularly those with communication challenges or sensory processing disorders.
• Be familiar with alternative communication methods (e.g., Makaton, PECS) or be willing to undertake training.
• Demonstrate patience, empathy, and the ability to work with children in a calm, structured, and nurturing manner.
• Be proactive, flexible, and willing to adapt to the child’s evolving needs.
• Exhibit strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
• Understand the importance of safeguarding and promoting the child’s welfare.
Requirements:
• Previous experience working with children with SEN in a school or care setting.
• Experience or willingness to learn communication techniques such as Makaton or PECS.
• A valid DBS on the update service or willingness to undergo a new enhanced DBS check.
• Level 1 Safeguarding certification (or willingness to obtain).
