About the role
The vMix Switcher Operator will be responsible for operating, switching, and coordinating all technical and editorial elements within SportyNet’s live and recorded productions using vMix. This role is essential to ensuring smooth, accurate, and high-quality execution of live shows, match broadcasts, interviews, press conferences, remote contributions, and digital-first productions. The vMix Switcher Operator works in direct collaboration with producers, directors, MCR, audio, graphics, engineering, and on-air talent to deliver seamless productions across linear TV and digital platforms.
What you'll be doing
Live Production Operation (vMix & Switching)
Operate vMix as the primary switcher for live programs, sports broadcasts, studio shows, and remote productions
Execute transitions, cuts, picture-in-picture (PIP), overlays, lower-thirds, scorebugs, and dynamic graphics
Manage multiple video inputs, cameras, replay sources, remote calls, and media assets
Trigger commercial breaks, sponsored elements, and promotional content in alignment with the rundown
Follow cues from the director and production team, ensuring timing accuracy during live operations
System Setup & Technical Configuration
Prepare vMix sessions, templates, and input maps for each production
Configure routing, audio buses, mix-minus, NDI sources, and contribution protocols (SRT, RTMP, WebRTC)
Work closely with Engineering to validate equipment, network stability, and redundancy paths
Ensure that graphics, media clips, and remote feeds are preloaded, tested, and synchronized
Coordination with Editorial, Production & MCR
Collaborate with producers to understand rundown structure, segment needs, editorial priorities, and timing
Align with MCR for content ingest, playlist timing, commercial insertion, and breaks
Integrate graphic elements provided by the design team, including lower-thirds, animations, and full screens
Maintain communication with control room teams during live shows for operational updates and adjustments
Quality Control & Monitoring
Monitor audio and video levels, signal sync, color balance, and overall production quality
Identify technical issues in real time and implement immediate corrective actions
Ensure outputs match broadcast standards for both linear channels and digital platforms
Conduct pre-show rehearsals and tests to guarantee operational readiness
Workflow Optimization & Documentation
Maintain vMix presets, templates, and operational guides for various program formats
Support development of SOPs related to live switching, remote integration, and digital output workflows
Participate in technical evaluations, pilots, and tests for new tools or production formats
Provide feedback and improvement recommendations to enhance production efficiency
What you'll bring
Degree in Broadcasting, Audiovisual Production, Media Technology, Engineering, or related fields
Proven experience operating vMix or other live production/switching systems in professional environments
Experience with live sports broadcasting is a significant advantage
Familiarity with control room workflows, studio operations, and digital live streaming
Advanced knowledge of vMix (switching, graphics layering, audio routing, replay, automation)
Experience with NDI, SRT, RTMP, IP-based video workflows, and cloud contribution tools
Understanding of broadcast standards, sync, color, encoding formats, and audio mixing principles
Ability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly during high-pressure live environments
Comfort working with graphic systems, lower-thirds, overlays, and brand identity packages
Intermediate English for reading technical documentation and communication with partners
High focus, attention to detail, and solid situational awareness during live broadcasts
