Description
Technical Support Specialist — Applications
3D Metrology for tomorrow's Semiconductors
Department: Operations — Central Support
Location: United States (West Coast base)
Travel: 60%, global, short-notice to bridge team gaps
This role bridges Central Support and Applications from a US base — carrying applications expertise into the field, giving technical-sales engagements local engineering support, and acting as the coordination point that keeps Asia, UK and US aligned as the territory grows.
Key responsibilities
Bridge CS and Applications: carry applications methods and know-how into field support and installs, closing the transfer gap that currently slows US delivery.
Support technical sales locally: provide on-the-ground engineering backing to US technical-sales engagements, from demos to customer technical questions, without waiting on UK/Asia time zones.
Coordinate cross-timezone information flow: act as the US anchor for Asia→UK→US coordination so support, applications and delivery information moves reliably rather than depending on one overloaded location.
Deploy to customer sites: travel globally at short notice (60%) to support installs, upgrades and applications escalations where US or wider-team capacity is stretched.
Shadow and up-skill: train on live builds and installs to reach lead-capable status, then contribute to standards and work instructions so knowledge is repeatable, not personal.
Feed back into the product: channel field and applications findings back to NPI and engineering so recurring issues are designed out.
Required skills & experience
Strong applications or field-engineering background in semiconductor capital equipment, metrology, or a closely related precision-instrument field.
Hands-on experience supporting complex electro-optical or precision systems at customer sites (installs, upgrades, escalations).
Able and willing to travel 60% globally, including short-notice deployment.
US-based, with existing right to work in the United States.
Excellent cross-functional communicator — comfortable working across engineering, applications, sales and multiple regional teams.
Self-directed, able to operate as the local technical point of contact with limited on-site supervision.
Right to work and live in the USA with the appropriate passport to allow international travel for work purposes
Nice to have
Direct experience with 3D metrology or scanning-probe/RPM-class systems.
Prior exposure to technical pre-sales or customer-facing applications work.
Experience coordinating across Asia / Europe / US operations.
