Description
ABOUT BEACON SOFTWARE Beacon Software https://beaconsoftware.com/ is a permanent capital holding company which acquires and grows essential businesses. We are a profitable series B+ firm that combines great technologists, operators and M&A professionals to accelerate the scale of the ambition of the dozens of businesses we own and operate. We are supported by capital from tier-1 venture capital, crossover, and endowment investors as well as the founders of the leading technology companies from the past decade. ROLE AND MISSION Beacon is seeking a Tax Manager to own the tax function across our portfolio of software businesses in Canada and the United States. This role is responsible for compliance, provision, indirect tax, and transaction tax across a growing, multi-entity, acquisition-driven group. This is a senior, self-directed role. You will own the technical tax agenda and lead our external tax advisors and specialists rather than depend on internal coaching. You will also help lead the tax workstream of our ongoing ASPE → IFRS conversion. This is a foundational role in building an internal tax capability that scales with our growth. Location: Toronto, ON Working Arrangements: Hybrid (In-office 3–4 days / week) WHAT YOU'LL DO TAX COMPLIANCE — CANADA & U.S. - Own Canadian corporate income tax (T2) compliance across all entities, including installments, elections, and supporting schedules. - Own U.S. federal and state corporate income tax compliance across operating entities. - Maintain a portfolio-wide compliance calendar and ensure timely, accurate filings across all jurisdictions. - Coordinate cross-border matters (e.g., Canada–U.S. structures, withholding, intercompany) with internal finance and external advisors. INDIRECT TAX & STATE REGISTRATIONS - Own sales tax, GST/HST, and U.S. state/local indirect tax compliance across the portfolio. - Lead multi-state nexus analysis and complete new state registrations — a common gap as we acquire and integrate U.S. companies. - Manage indirect tax setup, registrations, and account configuration for newly acquired entities. TAX PROVISION, IFRS & CONSOLIDATION - Prepare and review current and deferred tax provisions to support consolidated financial reporting. - Lead the tax workstream of the ASPE→IFRS conversion, including deferred tax under IAS 12. - Support the year-end audit on all tax matters and act as the primary point of contact with auditors on tax. M&A / TRANSACTION TAX - Support deal structuring, including entity structure and cross-border (Canada/U.S.) considerations. - Review purchase agreements for tax provisions and support post-close tax true-ups and integration. - Onboard acquired entities into the tax compliance calendar, provision process, and control environment. ADVISOR & CROSS-FUNCTIONAL LEADERSHIP - Own and lead relationships with our external tax advisors (Canadian and U.S.) — directing the work, not simply liaising. - Partner with Corporate Finance to align tax data flows and reporting. - Work alongside the Director of Finance on tax planning, structuring, and process automation, and support ad hoc analyses. QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation required. - Tax specialization — CPA In-Depth Tax (Canada) or U.S. CPA / EA equivalent. - 6+ years of progressive tax experience, ideally with Big 4 or a national accounting firm. - Hands-on experience with cross-border Canada/U.S. corporate income tax compliance. - Experience preparing and reviewing tax provisions and deferred tax (ASPE, IFRS/IAS 12, or U.S. GAAP). - Self-directed and technically authoritative — able to own the function and lead external advisors independently, without internal coaching on technical tax matters. - Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills, with high attention to detail. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Indirect tax experience (GST
