Engineering That Stands Up to Anything
At BakerHicks, we design the structures that hold some of the UK’s most critical, complex and high-profile projects together. From aviation to power, defence to major infrastructure, our multidisciplinary teams deliver engineering that is safe, efficient and genuinely buildable.
We’re looking for a Structural Engineer who’s detail-driven, technically sharp, and ready to make an impact across a diverse project portfolio.
This role is ideal for someone who is 1–2 years away from achieving chartership and looking to join a company that offers the support, exposure, and project experience needed to get them over the line and progress into a Senior-level position
What You’ll Do
You’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality structural engineering designs as part of an integrated project team. This includes:
Producing detailed structural calculations and analysis to current British Standards and Eurocodes
Developing designs for a wide range of buildings and structural elements
Creating and checking sketches, drawings and technical deliverables to company and client quality standards
Collaborating closely with architects, engineers and technicians across multiple disciplines
Supporting and mentoring CAD technicians, trainees and graduates
Managing and contributing to packages of work, with increasing responsibility as experience grows
Participating in technical meetings and representing BakerHicks when required
Promoting quality, accuracy and Perfect Delivery across every project
What You Bring
You’re someone who thrives on technical accuracy, teamwork and good engineering judgement. You’ll bring:
A Master’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (or a Bachelor’s with willingness to complete further learning)
A strong understanding of Eurocodes, British Standards, CDM and UK technical standards
Experience designing with steel, concrete, timber and/or masonry
AutoCAD proficiency (2D/3D); Revit experience is a bonus
Solid understanding of structural design principles and site-wide considerations such as earthworks
Excellent communication skills - able to collaborate, influence and negotiate across disciplines
Strong time management and the ability to juggle multiple tasks under pressure
A full UK driving licence and eligibility for security/airside clearance
Sector experience in Aviation, Defence, Custodial or Power is a plus!
Who You Are
You’re methodical, practical and positive - someone who takes responsibility for their work, self-checks for accuracy, and always keeps the bigger picture in mind. You enjoy mentoring others, contributing to team knowledge, and maintaining high professional standards, including keeping up to date with ICE/IStructE development requirements and almost close to getting chartered and want the support that will get you there.
Why BakerHicks?
You’ll be part of a business known for technical excellence and innovation. You’ll get real responsibility, support toward chartership, involvement in major engineering projects, and the opportunity to develop and grow within a collaborative, respected team.
Ready to engineer something you’ll be proud of?
If you’re a Structural Engineer who wants varied work, a strong technical community and a chance to make your mark - we’d love to hear from you.
