THE OPPORTUNITY
TELUS Digital seeks a talented AI Engineer, driven to implement autonomous, intelligent, and analytical AI solutions that address complex business challenges. Your role is essential in bringing sophisticated Generative AI and Software Engineering concepts and architectures into tangible, production-ready applications, enhancing digital products through autonomy, intelligence, and real-time adaptation.
LOCATION AND FLEXIBILITY
This role can be fully remote for candidates based in Brazil, due to team distribution and occasional in-person opportunities. If you are based in São Paulo or Porto Alegre, you are welcome to work from one of our offices on a flexible schedule.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the end-to-end architecture of AI-powered systems, including Generative AI, agentic workflows, and multi-agent ecosystems, ensuring scalability, modularity, and performance.
- Design and standardize multi-agent coordination, context/memory strategies, and human-in-the-loop interactions across the organization.
- Lead decisions on model selection and architecture trade-offs, balancing latency, cost, accuracy, and scalability; define evaluation frameworks, governance, and safety guardrails.
- Design data architectures for AI systems, including embedding strategies, vector databases, and context pipelines for large-scale unstructured data.
- Ensure production readiness of AI systems through CI/CD, containerized deployment, cloud integration, observability, and reliability engineering.
- Act as a technical leader: mentor engineers, advise on architecture, and communicate trade-offs clearly to technical and executive stakeholders; collaborate across engineering, data, product, and operations to align AI architecture with business goals.
- Drive innovation by evaluating emerging models, frameworks, and architectural paradigms, and incorporate them into TELUS Digital's AI ecosystem.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience architecting AI systems, with a strong software engineering background (Python/Django, Java/Spring, TypeScript/Express) and API integration/orchestration.
- Hands-on experience with agentic orchestration frameworks (LangGraph, Google ADK, OpenAI Agents SDK, CrewAI), tool-calling, MCP, and RAG.
- Experience with evaluation and observability tools (RAGAS, LangSmith, Arize, Braintrust) to assess AI system performance.
- Expertise in embeddings, vector databases, and chunking strategies, with an understanding of their trade-offs.
- Experience with CI/CD, containerization/orchestration (Kubernetes), and cloud AI services (AWS Bedrock, Azure AI) for scalable, high-throughput, low-latency, secure deployments.
- Excellent prompt and context engineering skills, and the ability to communicate complex AI concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
BONUS POINTS
- Experience with Context Engineering
