Description
At NiCE, we don’t limit our challenges. We challenge our limits. Always. We’re ambitious. We’re game changers. And we play to win. We set the highest standards and execute beyond them. And if you’re like us, we can offer you the ultimate career opportunity that will light a fire within you. Database DevOps & Release Engineer
So, what’s the role all about?
We're hiring a Database DevOps & Release Engineer for our Data Engineering and Database Operations team. This role goes beyond traditional DBA work: you'll need strong SQL and T-SQL skills, working knowledge of DevOps and GitOps principles, and ownership of how database changes get built, reviewed, packaged, and deployed.
You'll review and approve pull requests for database changes, package those changes (DDL, stored procedures, functions, and CLR/assembly changes) into deployable artifacts using DACPAC, SLN, and manifest files, and build and manage the CI/CD pipelines that deploy them alongside production application code. You'll also handle database support for our lower and lab environments, so replication, high availability, and backup/restore skills matter as much as your DevOps background.
How will you make an impact?
Review and approve pull requests for database changes, ensuring code quality, standards, and deployability before merge.
Package database changes (DDL, stored procedures, functions, and CLR/assembly changes) into deployable artifacts using DACPAC, SLN, and manifest files.
Build, manage, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for database deployments from inception to end of life, using Jenkins and GitHub Actions/Workflows.
Coordinate database deployments so they roll out alongside production application code changes.
Apply GitOps principles to database change management, including branching strategy, pull request workflows, and version-controlled deployment of schema and code changes.
Use Redgate SQL Compare to identify and validate schema changes as part of the deployment and PR review process.
Develop and optimize SQL and T-SQL scripts, stored procedures, functions, and other database objects.
Act as the primary database support resource for lower/lab environments, troubleshooting deployment-related issues as well as general database issues.
Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot SQL Server Replication environments, including Transactional Replication (mandatory) and Merge Replication (mandatory).
Support and troubleshoot AlwaysOn Availability Groups and other high-availability solutions.
Perform database backup, restore, disaster recovery, and routine maintenance activities.
Perform root cause analysis and resolve database performance bottlenecks.
Monitor database environments using tools such as SolarWinds DPA or equivalent monitoring platforms.
Provision, configure, maintain, and support AWS RDS for MySQL and Amazon Aurora (MySQL-compatible) database environments.
Troubleshoot and maintain SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages and ETL workflows.
Partner with R&D architects and developers to define database deployment standards and best practices across SQL Server and Amazon Aurora RDS.
Develop automation scripts and operational tooling, primarily using Python (PowerShell as needed).
Participate in Agile ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and technical discussions.
Contribute to continuous improvement of the database deployment pipeline and operational practices.
Have you got what it takes?
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
8+ years of professional experience in database engineering or administration, with strong exposure to DevOps/CI-CD practices.
Advanced knowledge of SQL and T-SQL programming.
Solid understanding of DevOps and GitOps principles as applied to database change management.
