Marqeta is the modern card issuing platform behind companies like Uber, Square, Instacart, and Klarna. Our Data Engineering Platform team owns the Snowflake infrastructure and services behind that business: the warehouse, the customer-facing reporting APIs, the ETL pipelines, and the access controls that let our customers, our regulators, and our own teams trust every transaction record. As a Software Engineer II on the Data Engineering Platform team, you will help steward Marqeta's Snowflake data platform: the configuration-as-code, access model, schema-migration tooling, and compliance automation that every team at Marqeta touching Snowflake depends on. Around that core, you'll also contribute to the services we operate on top of the warehouse: a customer-facing financial reporting API, PCI-scoped ETL pipelines, cross-region replication and parity checks, per-customer program provisioning, and sensitive-data masking. Our stack is Python and SQL on top of Snowflake and AWS. Everything is provisioned as code with Terraform, and data pipelines are orchestrated with Apache Airflow. Services run on AWS Lambda and API Gateway today, with active work to evaluate a migration to Kubernetes for some workloads. Everything ships through modern CI/CD in a regulated environment with strict data-handling and audit requirements. This is a hands-on platform-engineering role with meaningful ownership from day one. You'll partner with senior engineers on production infrastructure, help shape decisions about how Marqeta operates Snowflake at scale, and have room to grow into technical leadership on the platform surfaces you own. The Impact You'll Have Author and maintain Terraform for Snowflake resources (databases, schemas, tables, roles, warehouses, storage and notification integrations, resource monitors, tags, and network policies) across a multi-account, multi-region Snowflake footprint Extend our role-based access-control model, including short-lived credential provisioning and periodic access-review workflows the business relies on Contribute to the Snowflake schema-migration platform and CI/CD pipelines used by every team at Marqeta writing to the shared warehouse Work on data-retention automation that enforces policy-driven deletion, and on cost/lifecycle work that keeps Snowflake efficient at scale Contribute to the services we build around the warehouse: a customer-facing financial reporting API (Python on AWS Lambda + API Gateway), Apache Airflow pipelines that move PCI-scoped transaction data into Snowflake, cross-region DDL parity checks, and a sensitive-data masking service Author Terraform and Python for the surrounding AWS infrastructure (Lambda, IAM, networking, CloudFront/S3) Who You Are 2+ years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent (we're open to strong candidates with less if the fundamentals are there) Strong proficiency in Python and working SQL knowledge Production experience in AWS or a comparable cloud, and comfort operating in a regulated environment Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or comparable) Track record of taking a project from ambiguous problem statement to shipped code with limited supervision Strong written and verbal communication; you'll be reading and writing RFCs, PR descriptions, and runbooks regularly Commitment to code quality, testing, and documentation Nice to haves Experience with Snowflake specifically, and with schema-migration tooling Terraform applied to data-warehouse resources (roles, warehouses, integrations, network policies) Exposure to RBAC modeling, IAM, or credential-management systems Building or operating REST APIs in production on AWS Lambda + API Gateway, Kubernetes, or comparable Container fundamentals (Docker) and comfort with c
