Description
Let’s fix hospitality, for good.
Hospitality runs on thin margins, and most operators are stretched trying to protect them. We built Nory to fix this problem.
Our CEO, Conor, knows the pain first-hand. He founded and scaled Mad Egg in Ireland, and grew tired of stitching together so-called market-leading systems and spreadsheets just to keep the business running. He set out to build the tool he wished he’d had from day one.
Nory is a restaurant management system that blends real-time data with machine learning and autonomous agents to give operators real control of their margins. From food prep to forecasting, it is the operational intelligence that helps restaurants run profitably, with less waste and better jobs for the people working in them.
Fresh off a Series B led by Kinnevik, we’ve grown to over 100 people across Ireland, the UK, Spain and New York. Demand is scaling faster than we expected.
The role
We’re looking for a Senior Mobile Engineer to join our Web & Mobile Platform team.
Nory Team is the mobile app we’ve built for everyone on the restaurant floor. It's how staff clock in, check their shifts, book leave and get paid. As part of our continuous investment into our stack, we want to rebuild our app from scratch to make sure we have the best possible experience for our customers.
You'll own the rebuild end to end: assess what's there, set the architecture, plan the migration and ship an MVP in one to two quarters, then grow it into a platform the rest of engineering builds on. You'll lean on AI to move fast while keeping the quality bar high.
The real challenge is reliability. These apps run in basements with no signal, on cracked and low-spec phones, for people who often speak English as a second language. A failed clock-in means a missed shift or a missed paycheck, so it has to work every time. Nailing that in the messiest conditions is the heart of the job.
React Native is where you'll spend most of your days, so deep experience with it is essential. Our apps currently run on Capacitor over React, and the wider stack is Python, FastAPI, React, TypeScript, Node.js, AWS (Fargate, Aurora, SQS), Postgres, MongoDB and Docker.
What you’ll be doing
Our squads are cross-functional and run with a lot of autonomy. You’ll own the mobile platform end to end, from working out what’s there today to a full production rebuild and everything after it, working closely with product, design and engineers from across the business.
Key projects you’ll be working on:
• Build for the real world. The app has to hold up on patchy connectivity, old devices and flaky GPS, because for our users, clocking in reliably isn’t optional.
• Set up the design system and modular building blocks in React Native, so the team can move fast without cutting corners on UX.
• Put AI agents to work in parallel to generate and ship good code quickly. You’re building the machine that builds the app, not just the app. This means thinking carefully about how to design our codebases to allow for high quality outcomes with coding agents.
• Grow the build into a platform, owning the quality and pace of the mobile codebase and giving other engineers at Nory a solid base to build on.
• Work closely with design and engineering, and stay outward-facing as the core of a small platform team.
What you’ll bring
• Deep React Native experience at a senior level. You’ve shipped production React Native apps in TypeScript and can run a mobile codebase on your own, start to finish. You don’t need Swift or Kotlin, though a bit of curiosity about the lower-level APIs on each OS goes a long way.
• You build with AI, but you don’t let standards slip. You get a lot faster with AI agents while still holding a high bar on detail, design and craft. That mix of speed and taste is exactly what we’re after.
• You’ve done a from-scratch build or a big migration. You’ve taken something greenfield from nothing t
