Description
Role Overview
Help develop and deliver next-generation consumable products, including cassettes for manual and automated mass photometry instruments.
Working within a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists, the R&D Engineer will design, test and deliver innovative consumable products that enable robust and reliable measurements for our users.
The role involves translating product requirements into technical specifications, verification plans and production-ready designs, while ensuring compatibility with current and future instrument platforms.
The successful candidate will combine product development, mechanical design and manufacturing engineering expertise to deliver high-quality consumable products from concept through to production.
Key responsibilities for this role include:
Develop and deliver next-generation consumable products, including cassettes for current and future mass photometry instruments, from concept through production.
Design, build and troubleshoot prototype cassettes, fixtures and test equipment.
Test consumables using mass photometry instruments and analyse data to support design decisions and ensure robust performance.
Translate product requirements into technical specifications, verification plans and customer-facing documentation.
Collaborate with applications scientists, engineers, software developers and operations teams to deliver new product features and improvements.
Define and manage critical consumable-to-instrument interfaces to ensure reliable system performance.
Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles to develop scalable, cost-effective and production-ready designs.
Work closely with suppliers, contractors and manufacturing partners to support development, validation and production transfer.
Contribute to Refeyn's intellectual property portfolio through invention generation and identification of patentable ideas.
Stay informed of developments in mass photometry, light scattering and related analytical technologies to support the consumables roadmap.
We are ideally looking for someone with the following skills and experience:
Self-motivated engineer who enjoys working within a multidisciplinary team to develop innovative consumable products.
Strong mechanical design experience, ideally with consumables such as cassettes or cartridges.
Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modelling, assemblies and manufacturing drawings.
Experience developing products from concept through prototyping, verification and manufacture.
Strong understanding of injection moulding, Design for Manufacture (DFM), tooling validation, engineering drawings and GD&T.
Experience designing and delivering jigs and fixtures for development and testing activities.
Ability to analyse experimental data and use evidence-based decision making.
Highly Desirable:
Experience designing, testing and manufacturing consumables for analytical, life science or diagnostic instruments.
Experience working directly with suppliers, toolmakers, contract manufacturers and development partners.
Experience applying DFMEA or other risk-management methodologies during product development.
Knowledge of tolerance analysis and variation management techniques.
Ability to balance performance, manufacturability, cost, reliability and user requirements when making design decisions.
Comfortable making engineering decisions in the face of uncertainty and evolving requirements.
We know there is no such thing as the perfect candidate and that there is great value in transferrable skills, so please don’t feel you have to tick all of the above boxes to apply!
