Description
COMPANY
Credit Genie is a mobile-first financial wellness platform designed to help individuals take control of their financial future. We leverage artificial intelligence to provide personalized insights and are building a financial ecosystem by offering tools and services that provide instant access to cash, and building credit. Our goal is to empower every customer to achieve long-term financial stability.
Founded in 2019 by Ed Harycki https://www.linkedin.com/in/ed-harycki/, former Swift Capital Founder (acquired by PayPal in 2017 https://techcrunch.com/2017/08/10/paypal-acquires-swift-financial/). Backed by Khosla Ventures and led by industry pioneers from companies such as; PayPal, Square, and Cash App, we are well positioned to build the future of inclusive finance through cutting-edge technology and customer-centric solutions.
OVERVIEW
Credit Genie helps people get cash when they need it and build toward financial stability. Every advance and every repayment is a money-movement event across ACH and card rails, and as we scale toward millions of transactions, payments is the system that decides whether members get paid on time and whether the business is sustainable.
We're hiring our first Payments Product Lead to own that system as a product. This is a net-new function. You will be the single owner of how money moves: the rails, the funding instruments, the orchestration, the reconciliation, and the reliability and cost of all of it. You'll report to the Head of Product and lead through Engineering, Risk, Compliance, and Finance.
This is a senior individual-contributor role for someone who wants to build a function, not inherit one — you'll have the mandate, the executive air cover, and the data to move fast and own the outcome.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Rail and instrument strategy. Decide when we use ACH vs. card, how fallbacks work, and how funding instruments are kept healthy. Put change-control around it so payment logic never ships un-designed.
- Funding-instrument health. Own the card-update, AVS, and re-instrument flows that ensure funding instruments remain healthy
- Payment orchestration. Own cadence, retries, and the prevention of stuck or orphaned transactions at the system level.
- Reconciliation and settlement. Own ledger integrity, settlement timing, and the money-movement path across our systems.
- Reliability and cost as outcomes. Own the payments scorecard (approval rate, outcomes, cost per dollar moved, money-movement uptime) and drive Engineering to hit it.
REQUIREMENTS
- 8+ years in payments product, including meaningful time owning strategy and roadmap end to end.
- Deep ACH and card-network expertise: return/response codes, retry and representment rules, AVS/BIN behavior, settlement timing. You can explain why a specific instrument fails and design around it.
- System-level fluency in rail orchestration, fallback design, reconciliation, and ledgering.
- You leverage AI and diagnose from data. You define the metric; you don't wait for a dashboard.
- A track record shipping on high-volume payment systems where you owned outcomes (rates, cost, reliability), not just features.
What makes someone exceptional here
You've productized payments operations before. You've built or driven the tooling and automation that turns payment diagnosis into a standing capability, and you treat AI and agents as a way to build that platform, not as a buzzword. You move cross-functional teams through clarity and credibility rather than authority, and you take the reliability and cost numbers personally.
What this role is not
This is a product role. You are accountable for payments reliability and cost as outcomes and you design the system that delivers them, but on-call and incident command live with our Engineering and SRE teams. If you're looking to run a payments-operations desk or a pager rotation, this isn't it.
PREFERRED
- EWA or consumer fintech lending experience.
