Description
Our partner is a fintech and payment services provider based in the EU. Licensed and regulated as an E-Money Institution, they offer consumer wallets and corporate accounts.
As their exclusive recruitment partner, we manage their full-cycle talent acquisition.
We are seeking a hands-on, commercially minded Operational Chief Financial Officer to lead our finance function in Malta and drive the strategic intersection between corporate finance and business operations. In this high-impact executive role, you will hold complete oversight of financial controls while actively guiding the operational finance workflows unique to a high-growth Electronic Money Institution (EMI). This is an extraordinary opportunity for a proven finance leader to shape internal processes, mentor a dedicated team, and serve as a key advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors.
Responsibilities
Directly manage, structure, and develop the Malta-based finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, operational clarity, and high performance.
Maintain hands-on oversight of specialized financial workflows, including client fund safeguarding, multi-currency reconciliations, liquidity management, and payment settlement flows.
Deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, board packs, management accounts, and financial analysis for key stakeholders.
Lead ongoing statutory audits, regulatory reporting, and compliance reviews, serving as the primary finance contact for regulators, banking partners, and external auditors.
Drive annual budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and financial modeling to support business expansion, commercial decision-making, and risk management.
Identify operational bottlenecks, implement robust internal controls, and introduce automation to improve financial reporting accuracy and speed.
Partner closely with executive leadership, compliance, risk, and operations teams to align financial strategies with broader business objectives.
Requirements
Extensive experience as a CFO, Operational CFO, Finance Director, or Head of Finance within a regulated financial environment.
Direct experience within an EMI, Payment Service Provider (PSP), payment institution, bank, or high-growth fintech is strictly required.
Comprehensive understanding of EMI financial operations, including safeguarding requirements, client fund flows, payment settlement mechanisms, and liquidity management.
Strong background in managing statutory audits, external regulatory reporting, and complex financial governance frameworks.
Demonstrated ability to lead, upskill, and structure a finance team to operate efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
ACCA, ACA, CPA, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification is highly preferred.
Exceptional stakeholder management skills with the confidence to present to the Board, C-suite, and external regulatory bodies
Benefits
Comprehensive Private Health Insurance coverage (post-probation).
Access to an attractive, modern office space equipped with excellent facilities.
Daily breakfast options and catered team lunches every Friday.
Regular office social gatherings and team-building events in a highly collaborative environment.
