War Child is implementing an integrated education and school rehabilitation project in Yemen to restore safe, inclusive, and functional learning environments for vulnerable children through classroom rehabilitation and construction, rehabilitation of gender-sensitive WASH facilities, provision of basic classroom furniture, and teacher capacity building in close coordination with the Ministry of Education. The intervention targets selected schools in Sana’a and Ibb governorates. Across the two locations, the project includes rehabilitation and reconstruction of damaged classrooms, improvement of school WASH facilities, support to school readiness and furnishing, and delivery of Teaching in Crisis Context training for teachers to strengthen the quality and protective function of education in conflict-affected settings.     Your   role   The Engineer Education Assistant will be based in Sana’a, with frequent travel to Ibb, and will provide technical oversight and selected education implementation support across both project locations.  The role combines engineering supervision, contractor follow-up, technical quality assurance, coordination with education stakeholders, support to training logistics, school-level follow-up, documentation, and reporting so that infrastructure and education components are delivered in an integrated and compliant manner.  The post holder will report to the Programs Manager and will coordinate closely with the MEAL team, procurement, Finance, Safeguarding, Ministry of Education focal points, school leadership, and contractors in both Sana’a and Ibb. Responsibilities   Engineering and technical   Lead or support technical assessments and preparation/review of designs, specifications, and BoQs for all rehabilitation and construction works in Sana’a and Ibb.  Ensure designs and implementation comply in compliance  with Ministry of Education standards, Education Cluster guidance, and accessibility and safety requirements.   Provide technical inputs to procurement (tender dossiers, bid evaluations, contractor work plans and technical submissions).  Supervise classroom and WASH works in both locations, monitoring quality, quantities, timelines, and contractor performance, and promptly flagging risks or delays.  Enforce safety and safeguarding measures on all sites and support final inspection, snagging, verification, and handover to the Ministry of Education and school management.  Education   Support in coordination with the education team and Ministry of Education on planning and delivery of TiCC and other teacher capacity-building activities in Sana’a and Ibb.   Support all logistical aspects of trainings (participants, venue, materials, transport, attendance) and liaise with trainers and school management.   Conduct post-training school visits, document how teachers apply key learning, and flag needs for coaching or additional support.   Support setup and readiness of child-friendly/safe learning spaces and oversee distributions of school furniture and learning materials, ensuring proper documentation.  Coordination and communication   Maintain regular coordination with Ministry of Education, district education offices, school leadership, contractors, and community representatives in Sana’a and Ibb.   Work closely with programme, procurement, finance, MEAL, safeguarding, and security colleagues to deliver activities in a timely and compliant way.  Participate in internal and external coordination meetings and provide clear, solution-oriented updates to the line manager on progress, challenges, and required decisions.
