Description
Join Formlabs if you want to bring ground-breaking professional 3D printers to the desktop of every designer, engineer, researcher, and artist in the world.
As a Digital Systems Engineer at Formlabs, you will design, build, and maintain custom software across our digital and business-systems landscape — eCommerce, CRM, ERP, data platform, and the integrations that tie them together. You will ship features, applications, services, and integrations in TypeScript and Python, and grow into back-end Shopify development as a core part of the role.
You will work across the Digital Systems team and the broader Systems organization, partnering with engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to turn ambiguous requirements into scalable solutions. This is a hands-on building role for a versatile full-stack engineer who picks up new platforms quickly and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
This role is based in our Budapest, Hungary office or in our Somerville, Massachusetts, USA office and is a full-time position.
The Job:
Build across the stack: Design, develop, and ship custom features, applications, and services in TypeScript, React, and Python across Formlabs’ digital and business-systems landscape.
Own integrations: Build and maintain integrations between Shopify, Salesforce, NetSuite (ERP), BigQuery (data warehouse), and our internal middleware layer using REST/GraphQL APIs, webhooks, and event-driven patterns.
Grow into Shopify: Learn back-end Shopify development — Shopify Apps, Shopify Functions & Extensions, and the Admin and Storefront APIs — as a core, expanding responsibility supporting our headless B2B commerce platform. (This is not a front-end theming role.)
Extend the platform: Build internal tools, automations, and cloud-native services that improve operational efficiency and extend the capabilities of our systems.
Partner broadly: Collaborate with the Salesforce, Data Platform, and Infrastructure teams to deliver features and integrations that enable sales, service, marketing automation, and AI-driven tooling.
Engineer for scale: Apply modern software development practices — version/branch control, code review, automated testing, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code — to deliver clean, well-documented, maintainable code.
Translate and advise: Work with stakeholders and technical partners to define requirements, translate them into scalable technical solutions, and contribute to the strategic direction of Formlabs’ digital landscape.
You:
Full-stack experience: 4+ years of professional software engineering experience building web applications, platforms, services, or integrations for a business.
TypeScript and Python: Strong, hands-on proficiency in both — this is a core requirement of the role, not a nice-to-have.
Enterprise & business systems: Experience building for or integrating enterprise or business-critical systems (eCommerce, CRM, ERP, or similar), and comfort working with REST/GraphQL APIs, webhooks, and middleware.
Data savviness: Ability to write SQL queries from scratch, and a working knowledge of data warehouse concepts and tools (i.e. BigQuery, etc.).
Modern tooling: Fluency with Git/GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and containerized development and deployment.
A fast learner: A track record of picking up new platforms and technologies quickly — you will be expected to become our back-end Shopify expert on the job.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, and the ability to learn and implement new technologies quickly.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Bonus Points:
Experience with Kubernetes or container orchestration.
Experience with Rust and Shopify development.
Any Shopify development experience (Shopify App
