Description
Define the technical direction of a growing defence technology company Build with purpose. Own the stack. Do you want to shape the architecture behind complex, mission-critical systems used in real-world defence and security operations? Do you thrive at the intersection of software, systems engineering and product development, where architectural decisions directly affect performance, scalability, resilience and operational impact? And do you enjoy working closely with senior stakeholders, influencing both technology direction and business-critical decisions in a growing company? As Chief Architect at Chora, you will be the senior technical authority for the architecture of complex, mission-critical systems. Working across R&D, product management and programme execution, you will play a key role in shaping the next generation of Chora’s technology platform and ensuring that the company continues to deliver scalable, robust and operationally proven solutions to defence and security customers. The role As Chief Architect, you will hold architectural responsibility across software, systems, data, infrastructure, integrations and security. You will act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and play a central role in technical governance, architectural decision-making and long-term technology direction. The position reports directly to the COO and is part of Chora’s Technology & Architecture governance and decision forum. The role combines strategic architectural ownership with hands-on involvement in key technical decisions, trade-offs and solution design. You will translate architectural direction into implementable solutions across teams and use your technical judgement to create clarity in complex environments. This is a senior individual contributor role with significant technical influence, but without formal people management responsibility. Key responsibilities Your main responsibilities will be to: Own the end-to-end architecture across systems, software, data, infrastructure and integrations Define architecture principles, standards, roadmaps and reference architectures Translate customer needs, product direction and technical constraints into coherent, implementable architectures Lead key technology decisions, evaluations and proof-of-concepts Govern architecture through reviews, decision frameworks and stakeholder alignment Ensure that non-functional requirements such as performance, scalability, reliability and security are addressed Identify and mitigate technical risks, integration complexity and architectural debt The position is based at Chora’s headquarters in Aarhus. Expected travel activity is up to 20 days per year. Your profile You bring strong experience in technical architectural leadership from complex — and preferably mission-critical — environments. You are comfortable leading through influence and can create direction without relying on formal authority. We expect that you: Have 10+ years of experience in software, systems engineering, communications technology or solution architecture Have held senior architecture roles such as Chief Architect, Principal Architect or Lead Architect Have a proven track record of defining and governing end-to-end architectures Are experienced with architecture governance, including design reviews, ADRs, interfaces and non-functional requirements Are comfortable working across software, infrastructure, data, security and integrations Have experience with complex system integration, preferably from regulated or defence-related domains Can challenge assumptions, manage trade-offs and create clarity in complex technical environments You likely hold a master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related field. Fluency in English is required. Why join Chora? You will join a growing and
