Description
What we’re building
The marine industry supports recreation, global commerce, and national defense. And yet it runs on technology that hasn't meaningfully changed in fifty years. Until now. Arc is on a mission to electrify the marine industry. We're rethinking powertrains, software, and vessel designs from first principles. And we're already executing. We started with consumers to develop and harden our core technology. We’re now scaling production of our flagship model with new models and sectors on the horizon. Now we’re extending our platform to commercial applications, starting with tugs, ferries, and defense, with years worth of signed contracts and a pipeline that spans every vessel type on the water.
The technology is proven, the momentum is building, and the opportunity is enormous. The marine industry is going electric and Arc is building the platform that powers it
Who we’re looking for
As Arc's Build Engineer, you will own the transition of our commercial vessels from development to high-rate production. That means developing manufacturing processes and production tooling, driving design decisions that make our vessels easier to build, and optimizing production flow from first article through full rate.
We're looking for someone fired up by the mission and ready to build. You'll thrive here if you move fast, take ownership, and care about the details.
This is a full-time, on-site role at our Los Angeles headquarters.
What You'll Do
Developing production procedures and processes, and managing the transition of parts and assemblies from development to production
Architecting the manufacturing system, factory layout, and processes to deliver Arc's next-generation commercial vessels
Reviewing CAD models and providing manufacturing feedback to ensure designs are optimized for high-rate production and on-time delivery
Designing production tooling using hand calculations and CAD
Creating and managing manufacturing BOMs, work instructions, and specifications
Integrating subsystems into full vehicle assemblies, and developing and executing test procedures
Dispositioning rework and repairs during the manufacturing process
Questioning assembly and test requirements, deleting parts and processes, simplifying production flow, and cutting in targeted automation
Implementing linear production flow, visual indicators of bottlenecks and stock-outs, and product-specific build/test cells for low-intervention production
Interfacing with contractors and suppliers, and partnering with other teams to generate ideas, designs, and improvements for current and next-generation vessels
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, operations engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, or a related engineering discipline
1+ years of hands-on experience driving design, development, and manufacturing (internships, personal projects, and academic project team experience are applicable)
Willingness to get hands-on building next-generation boats
This is an active role that will require consistent physical activity including lifting, pushing, pulling up to 50 lbs including trailering and boarding onto water vessels as needed
Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
Bonus Qualifications
Experience in build/test development and on-time delivery of new hardware
Experience with manufacturing processes, including but not limited to fabrication, welding, machining, or assembly
Excellent grasp of the fundamentals of Design for Manufacturability
Solid understanding and application of GD&T
Analytical/scientific programming experience (i.e. Python, Matlab, Excel)
Exposure to multiple engineering disciplines and prior experience in a fast-paced manufacturing setting
Leadership or mentorship experience and the ability to communicate and build strong relationships at all levels of the organization (technicians, engineers,
