Description
Gibson Dunn is a leading global law firm, advising clients on significant transactions and disputes. Our exceptional teams craft and deploy creative legal strategies that are meticulously tailored to every matter, however complex or high-stakes. The firm’s work is distinguished by a unique combination of precision and vision.
Based in any of our U.S. offices (New York or Washington, D.C. preferred), the Azure DevOps Administrator will be responsible for the configuration, administration, optimization, and governance of the firm’s developer tooling ecosystem, including Azure DevOps, GitHub Enterprise, CI/CD pipelines, code repositories, and automation capabilities.
The Enterprise Application Solutions team supports and modernizes the firm’s application ecosystem, development tooling, and automation platforms. This role ensures that development teams have consistent, well-managed, and compliant tooling that supports modern engineering practices. The ideal candidate combines strong technical administration skills with secure DevOps practices, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the ability to collaborate with engineering, security, and infrastructure teams.
We are seeking an Azure DevOps Administrator to own and enhance our developer tooling environment, ensuring that engineering teams have a secure, scalable, and reliable platform for modern software delivery. This is a technical platform administration role, not a developer position, focused on stability, security, automation, legacy migration/conversion and enablement.
Key platforms include:
Azure DevOps: Repos, Pipelines, Boards, Artifacts, Test Plans
GitHub Enterprise: Repos, Branch protections, Actions, Packages
CI/CD Tooling: YAML pipelines, runners/agents, release automation
Cloud & Identity: Azure, Entra ID, service connections, key vaults
Automation & Scripting: PowerShell, REST APIs, DevOps CLI, GitHub CLI
This role reports to the Manager of Application Development.
Responsibilities include:
Platform Administration & Configuration
Administer and optimize Azure DevOps organizations, projects, repositories, pipelines, and agent pools.
Configure GitHub Enterprise settings, branches, protections, identity integrations, and security controls.
Maintain and govern CI/CD pipelines, build templates, variable groups, and release automation.
Ensure reliable operation of build agents, runners, self-hosted agents, and integrations.
Create and maintain project templates, repository policies, and standardized branching strategies.
Security, Compliance & Governance
Manage permissions, access controls, service connections, and environment restrictions across all tooling.
Enforce code security and compliance policies (branch protections, secrets management, PR controls).
Partner with Security & Infrastructure teams to ensure alignment with firm standards and regulatory requirements.
Implement secure DevOps practices, including least-privilege access, artifact governance, and pipeline hardening.
Developer Enablement & Support
Train and coach development teams on best practices for source control, branching, pipelines, and automation.
Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 support for Azure DevOps and GitHub issues, including pipelines, builds, deployments, and tooling errors.
Create documentation, runbooks, onboarding guides, and knowledge articles for consistent tool adoption.
Support teams migrating/converting from legacy tooling into Azure DevOps or GitHub Enterprise.
Build and maintain scripts, automations, and utilities using PowerShell, CLI, and REST APIs.
Standardize reusable pipeline templates and YAML libraries for consistent builds and deployments.
Identify opportunities to streamline developer workflows, reduce manual steps, and improve productivity.
Optimize performance of builds, pipelines, agent pools, and repository
