Description
IN A NUTSHELL... This is Bellroy's first store in Melbourne, the city the brand calls home and we're building it to be something genuinely good. The retail team's job is to bring the Bellroy experience to life in person: thoughtful, knowledgeable and a little unexpected. As Assistant Store Manager, you're the person the Store Manager hands the reins to with confidence. You know the numbers and the floor in equal measure. You can navigate a complex customer situation with the same ease you bring to a morning huddle, and you're the kind of presence that lifts a team (without making it obvious you're doing it). Ownership isn't just a word here, you'll be shaping how this store operates from the ground up, feeding ideas and observations upward in a way that actually influences decisions. Bellroy is a Certified B Corporation™, which means the way we do business is part of the product. Sustainability, materials, responsible supply chain; these aren't footnotes, they're things you'll speak to every day, fluently and genuinely. You'll be close to the people making decisions, on a team where good thinking is welcomed regardless of where it comes from. People who've worked in retail and genuinely love it often say the same thing: they want autonomy without being abandoned, accountability without being micro-managed, and a product they can actually stand behind. That's what this role offers. Bellroy is a considered brand and this store will reflect that, which means you'll have the space to do the job properly. YOU COULD BE THE ONE IF YOU HAVE … 3+ years retail supervisory experience and the instincts to match - you can read a floor, spot a pattern in the numbers, and respond with intention rather than reaction A real way with customers, especially in complex moments. Escalated complaints, warranty queries, and considered purchase decisions all get the same thoughtful attention as a first hello The ability to train and support others without making it feel like training. You share knowledge naturally and people feel more confident after talking to you A genuine interest in the product. You don't need to be a gear obsessive, but you should enjoy going deep on what makes something well-made and worth owning, and communicating that in a way that feels natural Experience running the operational side of a store: stock processes, cash handling, deliveries, and the daily discipline that keeps everything else working Comfort with ambiguity and early-stage problems. This store is still finding its feet, which means some things won't have a playbook yet, and that energises you rather than frustrating you A settled, grounded energy on the floor - the kind that steadies the team on a hard day, without anyone quite knowing how. Even if you don't tick every box, if you're drawn to the challenge of helping build something from scratch in a brand you genuinely respect, we'd love to hear from you! IF YOU WERE HERE LAST WEEK, YOU MIGHT HAVE … Run the morning huddle, briefed the team on the week's priorities and a new product update, and walked out of it feeling like everyone was actually ready Stepped in on a warranty situation that had gotten complicated, resolved it calmly, and fed back to the Store Manager what you'd noticed about how similar queries were landing Reviewed the week's performance numbers, spotted that one product category was underperforming despite good foot traffic, and had a conversation with the team about what might be going on Helped a customer build out a complete carry setup across a 25-minute conversation - not because you pushed, but because you asked the right questions and knew the range well enough to connect the dots Processed the weekly delivery, found a discrepancy in the order, flagged it, and made sure the back-of-house was back to its usual standard before opening Reset the floor after a busy Saturday afternoon and caught a display that wasn't quite right and
