Apex is hiring a Project Scientist/Arborist to be based in Seattle, WA. At Apex, you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside a dedicated group of talented engineers, scientists, and multi-discipline professionals on projects that vary widely in size and complexity- each making a meaningful impact in the communities we serve. This role offers significant room for professional growth.
Your Responsibilities as a Project Scientist/Arborist:
Conduct tree and vegetation surveys, develop and implement vegetation protection plans, conduct hazard tree assessments
Provide environmental compliance inspection and oversight on construction projects in the Puget Sound Region
Field collection of environmental samples (air, water, stormwater, wastewater, soil)
Routine regulatory reporting related to stormwater, wastewater, solid/hazardous waste, and air permit compliance
Prepare environmental management plans related to stormwater pollution prevention and spill prevention
Problem solving through selection and implementation of pollution prevention Best Management Practices for discharge permit compliance
Assist with the evaluation and permitting of environmental projects
Presentation of environmental topics to employees, clients, and contractors
Travel to project sites within Washington and Oregon required
Represent Apex in a safe and professional manner both internally and externally
What we're looking for:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology or related field
CESCL certification required (must be maintained during employment)
ISA Certified Arborist® required (must be maintained during employment)
TRAQ certification preferred
Demonstrated experience in arboriculture, tree care, or urban forestry
Demonstrates sound arboricultural judgment in assessments and recommendations
Experience collecting field samples of soil, groundwater, surface water, stormwater, wastewater, and air using standard environmental protocols
Experience preparing regulatory reports and permit-related documentation
